Candle
FAQs
-
Yes! All candles are hand poured in Melbourne, Australia by our very particular chandlers. No, not Chandler Bing, though there are arguably some similarities. Fun Fact: candle makers are traditionally known as chandlers.
-
Our fragrances are made in Australia from high quality ingredients. All fragrances have been tested to meet stringent Australian standards. All fragrances are vegan and have not been tested on animals.
Our fragrances are made of a combination of natural, essential oils and man-made notes blended by perfumers to meet high quality standards of scent and consistency. Exclusively natural fragrances aren’t stable and don’t blend well with wax on their own. This means that the candle scent may not be strong or consistent. Using a tried combination of natural and man-made notes allows for the best of both worlds. In scientific terms, this just means our candles smell awesome.
-
Our wicks are 100% Cotton and are produced following safe and sustainable forestry practices. The cotton is acquired from mills that have the FSC certification. The finished product is all natural and treated with a clean, patented burning agent.
-
Our wax supplier is an industry leader in wax innovation and responsible sourcing of raw materials. Our natural soy wax meets the necessary requisites to be classified as biodegradable, vegan and palm free. No animal testing or animal products are used in the manufacture of our wax
-
This depends on a lot of different factors. Please refer to the below candle maintenance section on how best to maintain your candle, for optimal burn time.
If looked after, our medium jar candles have a minimum burn time of 35 hours. Our pillar candles vary due to size and shape but all have a minimum burn time of approximately 2-3 hours. If burned in a fire-safe container, our pillar candles’ life span increases significantly.
-
For the 1st burn, trim wick to 5mm-10mm and ensure wax melts to jar edges before extinguishing. This ensures an even burn and helps to get the most out of your candle. If you extinguish a candle before the wax has melted to the edges, you risk the melted section creating a “memory ring” which will mean the candle is likely to only burn to that point in future burns and it might drown the wick.. it’s annoying just trust me on this one.
Trim your wick to around 5mm before every subsequent burn. The best way to trim your wick is using wick trimmers.
-
Yes. Trimming your wick to 5mm – 10mm before each burn and ensuring it is standing upright will ensure for an even and consistent burn.
-
Candle placement can influence your burn time. If your burning candle is in an air-conditioned or breezy area this can accelerate the burn rate. Always store candle in cool, dry place below 25oC & away from direct sunlight.
-
Burning a candle for too long can make carbon collect on the wick causing a “mushroom” effect which will make your flame larger than intended. This can make your wax melt faster, your flame get out of control, your jar accumulate black residue & your candle to start smoking leaving you with a literal hot mess.
-
When there is only a small amount of wax left, it’s best to extinguish so the glass jar doesn’t get too hot and cracking. Yikes!
-
Yep! None of our products use animal products or are tested on animals.
-
Not at this stage but we hope to in the future. Watch this space!
-
Heck yes! Recycle that jar! Wash out the remaining wax with warm soapy water and use as a receptacle for pens, brushes, stuff you’ve stolen from your sister, whatever your fancy. Try to be gentle when washing our coloured jars so the paint doesn’t chip.
